Parque Zoológico Nacional Simón Bolívar is Costa Rica's oldest zoo and botanical garden, operating in Barrio Amón since 1921. Most of its roughly 300 animals are rescued, injured, or orphaned wildlife undergoing rehabilitation rather than animals bred for display. The site also runs an on-site veterinary clinic and school education programs.
