This is a market reference rate, what banks quote each other, not what you personally get. Expect a little less at ATMs and bank windows, and watch for "dynamic currency conversion" that quietly charges you more. Many businesses in tourist areas take US dollars but set their own rate, often near ₡500, so paying in colones is usually cheaper. The official rate is published by the Banco Central de Costa Rica.
