Getting there and around
LIR airport is right in town, so most arrivals pick up a rental car or a pre-booked transfer at the terminal. Liberia's center, anchored by the Parque Central and the white colonial church, is compact and walkable, with banks, pharmacies, and restaurants within a few blocks. For anything past the center, including the hospitals on the edges of town and the beaches, use a car or taxi. San Jos茅 is about 4 hours away by Route 1, and the Liberia bus terminals run regional and long-distance service.
Best time to go
The dry season runs roughly December to April and is Guanacaste's hottest, driest stretch, good for volcano hikes and reliable roads but very warm in the city. The green season from May to November brings afternoon rain, lower prices, and greener landscapes; September and October are the wettest. LIR arrival volume peaks December through March, so book transport and rentals ahead in those months.
