Salsa Brava

One of the heaviest, most consistent reef breaks in Costa Rica, right off the town waterfront.

Salsa Brava is a powerful reef break directly offshore from Puerto Viejo town, breaking over a shallow coral and rock reef. It is one of the heaviest waves in Costa Rica, best suited to experienced surfers, and is not a beach for swimming or casual use. The wave is visible and reachable on foot from the town's main waterfront road.
